Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March, and in 2027 a real split between communities is likely, so the date that counts is the one your own mosque announces.

Expect both days to be in use. FCNA’s and the Umm al-Qura calendars give Tuesday; the UK local-sighting prediction gives Wednesday, and Wednesday is the most likely date in Australia too. In 2026, Eid al-Fitr fell on Friday 20 March 2026.

When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Tuesday 9 March 2027 for some communities, Wednesday 10 March for others. Eid al-Fitr is 1 Shawwal 1448, the day after the last fast of a Ramadan that is expected to begin on Monday 8 February (Ramadan 2027 dates).

Because an Islamic day begins at sunset, the night of Eid (Chand Raat in many South Asian families) starts the evening before: Monday 8 March for a Tuesday Eid, Tuesday 9 March for a Wednesday one.

Why might Eid 2027 fall on two different days?
The new moon arrives at 09:29 UT on Monday 8 March, so the crescent is very young by sunset that evening, and calculation and sighting give different answers. Different communities use different methods, and families follow their own mosque or scholars.

Saudi Arabia sits between the two. Its Umm al-Qura calendar shows Tuesday 9 March, but Eid there is set by the Supreme Court after testimony about the moon, so mosques that follow Saudi Arabia could end up on either day.

United Kingdom
ICOUK predicts that Shawwal will begin on Wednesday 10 March 2027 in the UK, with the crescent easily visible on the Tuesday evening. Mosques that follow Saudi Arabia will hear its decision on the evening of Monday 8 March, so a one-day split within the same city is quite possible.
United States and Canada
FCNA has already published Tuesday 9 March. Local-sighting groups such as the Hilal Council of Canada look for the moon themselves and announce afterwards. They started Ramadan 2026 a day after FCNA, so a Wednesday Eid in those communities would not be surprising.
Australia
ANIC has not announced Eid 2027. Its stated rule is that a month cannot begin on an evening when the new moon is born after sunset, and its 2026 Eid statement also weighed the chance of seeing the moon in Australia and the surrounding region. The new moon comes at 8:29 pm Sydney time on Monday 8 March. Islamic Relief Australia’s calendar lists Wednesday 10 March, the most likely date, though Tuesday is not ruled out.

Why is the week after Eid a good time to restart?
Many families find Ramadan habits slipping in the days after Eid, and a restart date fixed before Eid holds on to the month’s progress. The week of Monday 15 March is a natural choice.

- Choose one Ramadan surah or dua to keep revising every week.
- Note the clock change in your country (below) before the first lesson back.
Mind the clocks. The US and Canada move forward on Sunday 14 March 2027, the UK on 28 March, and Sydney moves back on 4 April.
