Eid al-Adha 2027: Sunday 16 or Monday 17 May?
Eid al-Adha 2027 is expected on Sunday 16 May, or on Monday 17 May if Dhul Hijjah begins a day later, with the Day of Arafah on the day before.

The short answer
Eid al-Adha 2027 (Eid ul Adha) is expected on Sunday 16 May 2027, with Monday 17 May the realistic alternative. The Day of Arafah comes the day before: Saturday 15 or Sunday 16 May. Treat these as expected, subject to moon sighting, until Saudi Arabia and your own mosque announce the start of Dhul Hijjah.
Most calendars, including FCNA’s and Saudi Arabia’s Umm al-Qura, point to the Sunday; the UK local-sighting prediction points to the Monday. Last year, Eid al-Adha fell on Wednesday 27 May 2026.

Dhul Hijjah 1448
When is Eid al-Adha 2027?
Eid al-Adha is 10 Dhul Hijjah 1448, expected on Sunday 16 May 2027 or Monday 17 May. Which one depends on when Dhul Hijjah begins, and for most communities that is set by Saudi Arabia’s announcement.
- 1 Dhul HijjahFriday 7 May 2027 or The first ten days begin.
- Day of Arafah (9 Dhul Hijjah)Saturday 15 May 2027 or Pilgrims stand at Arafat.
- Eid al-Adha (10 Dhul Hijjah)Sunday 16 May 2027 or The day after Arafah.
- Last day of Tashreeq (13 Dhul Hijjah)Wednesday 19 May 2027 or The three days after Eid end.
Expected, subject to moon sighting. The first date on each card follows FCNA and Umm al-Qura; the second is the alternative.
Many families treat the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah as a time for extra worship and charity. In 2027 those days run from Friday 7 May (or Saturday 8 May) up to Eid.
One evening in Makkah
What decides whether Eid al-Adha 2027 is on Sunday or Monday?
Whether Saudi Arabia accepts a sighting of the crescent on Thursday 6 May 2027, the 29th of Dhul Qa’dah in its calendar. The new moon comes at 10:58 UT that day (US Naval Observatory), only a few hours before sunset in Makkah, so the crescent will be very young.
Sighting accepted on Thursday 6 May
- 1 Dhul Hijjah: Friday 7 May
- Day of Arafah: Saturday 15 May
- Eid al-Adha: Sunday 16 May
- Tashreeq: Monday 17 to Wednesday 19 May
No sighting accepted that evening
- 1 Dhul Hijjah: Saturday 8 May
- Day of Arafah: Sunday 16 May
- Eid al-Adha: Monday 17 May
- Tashreeq: Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 May
FCNA’s calendar (1 Dhul Hijjah on 7 May), the Umm al-Qura calendar and moonsighting.com (Eid on 16 May) point to the left-hand dates. The UK local-sighting prediction from ICOUK matches the right-hand ones.
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court decides Dhul Hijjah from sighting testimony, as it does for Ramadan and Shawwal, and its announcement fixes the day the pilgrims stand at Arafat. That is why so many communities abroad wait for it before naming their Eid.
When is the Day of Arafah 2027?
The Day of Arafah 2027 is expected on Saturday 15 May, the day pilgrims stand at Arafat as announced in Saudi Arabia; if Saudi Arabia begins Dhul Hijjah a day later, it moves to Sunday 16 May.
Many Muslims who are not on Hajj fast on the Day of Arafah. A community that counts Dhul Hijjah from its own sighting may reach 9 Dhul Hijjah on Sunday 16 May even when Arafah in Makkah is the Saturday, and families follow their own mosque or scholars on which day they keep.

When is Eid al-Adha 2027 in the US, UK, Canada and Australia?
Sunday 16 May is the most likely date for communities that follow Saudi Arabia’s announcement, which include FCNA and, in 2026, ANIC; UK local sighting is predicted to give Monday 17 May.
| Community | Expected Eid al-Adha | How it is set |
|---|---|---|
| US and Canada: FCNA and ISNA | Sunday 16 May (expected) | Follows the Day of Hajj as announced in Makkah |
| US and Canada: local-sighting groups | Not yet announced | Their own sighting, e.g. the Hilal Council of Canada |
| UK: local sighting | Monday 17 May (ICOUK prediction) | Wifaqul Ulama used a local sighting for Dhul Hijjah 2026 |
| UK: mosques following Saudi Arabia | Sunday 16 or Monday 17 May | The Saudi Supreme Court’s announcement |
| Australia: ANIC | Sunday 16 or Monday 17 May | Followed Saudi Arabia’s Dhul Hijjah in 2026 |
FCNA’s calendar lists 1 Dhul Hijjah as Friday 7 May, but its Eid does not rest on that calculation. Its stated policy is that Eid al-Adha should coincide with the Day of Hajj as announced in Makkah, and moonsighting.com lists its expected date as Sunday 16 May. ANIC took the same approach in Australia in 2026.
In the UK, ICOUK expects Dhul Hijjah to begin on Saturday 8 May, with the crescent easily visible on the Friday evening, and Eid al-Adha on Monday 17 May. UK mosques that follow Saudi Arabia will celebrate on whichever day it announces.
For parents
Eid al-Adha and your child’s Quran routine
Mid-May is a useful checkpoint: about ten weeks after Ramadan, it shows whether the Ramadan routine has lasted. If lessons slipped after Eid al-Fitr, the weeks before Dhul Hijjah are a calm time to restart.
If a lesson falls on your Eid, tell us on WhatsApp and we agree a new time. A Sunday Eid usually touches only weekend lessons; a Monday Eid touches a weekday one.
Families who started lessons before Ramadan (see how lessons work in Ramadan) keep the same regular plan and weekly time, and the after-Eid ideas in our Ramadan Quran plan for kids apply just as well in May. The weeks before Eid are also a natural moment for a child to learn what the day marks, and Islamic classes for kids can cover the stories of the prophets, including Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
Lessons are live, 30 minutes and one-to-one, for children from age 4 as well as teenagers and adults; online Islamic studies shows the subjects. Plans run from $39 a month for two lessons a week to $59 for five, listed on fees and plans. They work best with a fixed weekly time, a quiet spot and a parent close by for younger children, and they are not the right fit if your timetable changes every week.
It starts with one message: we confirm a time on WhatsApp, your child has up to 3 free trial classes, and then you choose a plan or stop there.
