The short answer
Noorani Qaida is a small beginner’s book that teaches children the Arabic letters, their sounds and how they join into words. It also teaches the vowel marks. Children learn it first because it gives them everything they need to read the Quran correctly on their own.

What is inside the book?
The Qaida moves in small steps. Each lesson adds one new thing to what your child already knows.
- The 29 single letters and how each one sounds
- How letters change shape when they join
- Short vowels: fatha, kasra and damma
- Tanween, sukoon and shaddah
- Long vowels, so sounds are held for the right length
- Short practice lines taken from the Quran
Why not start straight with the Quran?
The Quran has full pages with many rules at once. A child who has not learned the letters ends up guessing or copying from memory. The Qaida slows things down so your child can actually read each word, not just repeat it.
Children who skip it often come back to it later to fix mistakes. It is quicker to learn it well the first time.
How long does it take?
Most children finish in about 4 to 12 months. Younger children and children with fewer classes a week take longer. Read how long Noorani Qaida takes for a fuller answer.
