The short answer
Your child can learn the Quran one-to-one from home anywhere in New Zealand, with a live 30-minute lesson after school. You pick a male or female teacher, and we agree the time with you in NZ time.
We have no office or centre in New Zealand; every class is online. Most of our teachers keep Pakistan time, which is 7 to 8 hours behind you, so a 4:30pm lesson in Auckland is a fresh morning lesson for the teacher.

A small community, spread out
Why many New Zealand families learn Quran online
Because a regular Quran class near home is not always there. Muslims are a small share of New Zealand, about one and a half per cent of people in the 2023 Census, and they are spread across a long country. A family in a city with a large masjid may have weekend classes nearby. Many others are a long drive from any class, or the one class on offer does not suit their child’s level.
An online lesson removes the drive. Your child sits at the kitchen table in Hamilton, Nelson or Invercargill and gets the same 30 minutes, with the teacher listening only to them.
NZDT and NZST
What time is my child’s lesson for the teacher?
Morning. New Zealand is ahead of Pakistan: 8 hours ahead during daylight saving and 7 hours ahead the rest of the year. A lesson after school in Auckland or Christchurch falls between breakfast and lunchtime for the teacher.
Daylight saving started on Sunday 27 September 2026 and ends on Sunday 4 April 2027. Pakistan has no clock change, so on 4 April your lesson stays at the same NZ time and simply becomes an hour later in the teacher’s morning.
Same day for both of you in the afternoon. Before about 8am in NZ, it is still the previous evening in Pakistan.
Lessons run at any hour, seven days a week, so a Saturday morning in Wellington, which is the middle of the night in Pakistan, is still a normal booking. Weekday afternoons are simply the easiest fit for both sides.
The NZ school day
When does a lesson fit after a New Zealand school day?
From about 3:30pm for primary children and from 4pm for secondary students. The Ministry of Education describes a primary day that usually runs 9am to 3pm, and most secondary schools run from about 8:45am to 3:15pm.
| Family | Lessons | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Year 2 child in Auckland | Mon and Wed, 3:45pm | Home from school, not yet tired |
| Year 6 child in Wellington with netball | Tue and Thu, 5:30pm | After practice, before dinner |
| Brother and sister in Christchurch | Mon and Thu, 4:30pm and 5:00pm | Their own lessons, back to back |
| Year 10 student in Hamilton | Sun 3:00pm and Wed 6:30pm | One weekend, one school night |
| Hifz student in Palmerston North | Mon to Fri, 4:00pm | The same time daily keeps revision steady |
Winter evenings get dark early, and some children are flat by 6pm. If that is your child, the 3:30 to 4:30pm window is worth trying first in the trial.
Four terms a year
Lessons through the school terms, summer and Ramadan
Lessons carry on through term breaks and the summer holidays unless you ask to change them. New Zealand has four terms. Terms 2 and 3 have fixed national dates, while schools have some say over when Term 1 starts and Term 4 ends.
| Period | Dates | For lessons |
|---|---|---|
| Term 4, 2026 | Mid-October to mid-December | Normal after-school routine |
| Summer holidays | Mid-December to late January | Move to afternoons or pause for travel |
| Term 1, 2027 | Starts 28 Jan to 4 Feb; ends 9 Apr | Includes Ramadan and the DST change |
| Term 2, 2027 | 27 Apr to 2 Jul | Winter: earlier slots often suit |
| Term 3, 2027 | 19 Jul to 24 Sep | Normal routine; clocks go forward on the last Sunday of September |
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around Monday 8 February, depending on the moon sighting, early in Term 1. Long summer days mean a late iftar, so many families shift lessons to the afternoon or to the weekend for the month. Tell us on WhatsApp what works and we agree new times.
From the first letter
What your child learns, step by step
Beginners of any age start with Noorani Qaida, and there is no shame in starting at the first letter. The first trial lesson shows the teacher what your child already knows, so nobody repeats what they can already do.
- Noorani QaidaLetters, sounds and joining, from age 4. Noorani Qaida lessons.
- Reading the QuranShort surahs, then steady reading from the mushaf.
- TajweedCorrect pronunciation and the rules of recitation. Learn Tajweed online.
- HifzMemorising with daily revision, for children who are ready. Hifz programme.
Explanations are in English, so a child who has grown up in New Zealand follows easily even if a parent learnt in Arabic, Urdu or another language. Alongside the Quran, children can learn Islamic Studies: Salah, Wudu, everyday duas and the life of the Prophet ﷺ.
Who is in the lesson
Your choice of teacher, and what Mum or Dad can see
You choose a male or female teacher, and you can watch any lesson live. Our class supervisors are women, and every month you receive a progress report on what your child has covered.
- A laptop or tablet with a camera and microphone
- Headphones, so your child hears every letter clearly
- A quiet table and steady Wi-Fi
- A parent nearby for the first few lessons with a young child
If the teacher or time is not right for your child, tell us on WhatsApp and we agree a change. Read more about our female Quran teachers.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have a Quran school in Auckland?
No. We have no school, office or centre anywhere in New Zealand. All lessons are online, so a child in Auckland and a child in Dunedin get exactly the same classes.
What time is an after-school lesson for the teacher?
Morning. During NZ daylight saving, 4:30pm in New Zealand is 8:30am in Pakistan; after the clocks go back on 4 April 2027 it is 9:30am.
Will the lesson time change when daylight saving ends?
Not for you. Your lesson stays at the same NZ time on 4 April 2027; only the teacher’s side moves an hour later.
Can my child have a lesson on a Saturday morning?
Yes. A Saturday morning in New Zealand is the middle of the night in Pakistan, but lessons run at any hour, so it can still be booked. Saturday afternoons are an easy alternative.
We live on the Chatham Islands. Does that work?
Yes. The Chatham Islands are 45 minutes ahead of the mainland, so a 4:30pm lesson there is 7:45am in Pakistan in summer. We book it in your local time.
Can my daughter have a female teacher?
Yes. Ask when we message you and we match her with a female teacher. Male teachers are available too.
There is no Quran class in our town. Is online enough on its own?
For learning to read and recite, yes: your child reads to one teacher for the whole lesson. Try to keep some contact with other Muslim families too, at Jumu’ah, Eid or a weekend gathering, because that is something a screen cannot give.
Can I pay in NZ dollars?
Fees are charged in US dollars in every country, from $39 a month, and your card converts from NZ dollars. See the monthly plans.
How do we book a free trial from New Zealand?
Send your country and WhatsApp number with the form on this page. You can book up to 3 free trial classes, no card required.
